Dr. Nelson Pinto

Born and raised in Bogota (Colombia’s capital), Nelson developed a close connection with animals while spending time at his grandmother’s coffee plantation. He obtained his degree in veterinary medicine from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogota, where he then practiced for 5 years between academia and private practice.  After two years working as an intern in an equine practice in British Columbia, Canada, Nelson was accepted and completed a three year residency program with a Master’s Degree in Equine Internal Medicine at Auburn University and became board certified.

During his internal medicine residency, he discovered veterinary ophthalmology and decided to pursue the specialty. At the University of Georgia, he completed a two year ophthalmology internship that led to a three year residency at North Carolina State University. Nelson has published a number of papers and articles in both fields of Internal Medicine and Veterinary Ophthalmology. He joined Dr. Brogdon at the Animal Eye Clinic and after a year and a half purchased the practice. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, reading and road cycling.
